What are your goals?

One thing that can always help us stay focused on our future is setting goals for our lives. Goals can be both short term and long term. They are those things in life that we want to accomplish. Sometimes goals can be very difficult to achieve, while other times they are quite simple.

For students, many goals would include graduating high school, attending college, or even acing their midterm coming up. For others, goals could mean losing weight, saving money for a specific vacation you want for your family, or even taking more walks outside.

Goals can also be very personal as well, especially for someone who is seeking out change. One goal of mine that I have had recently, is to just be more patient with others. Often, I am quick to speak, when I want to be the person that is always quick to listen. So that is something I have been intentionally working on.

Every person is so different, and we are all unique individuals. This also means we all have very different, and unique goals in our lives. Having these differences is healthy because it helps us see the individuality in others. Having different goals and dreams sets us apart and reaffirms our own journey or path in life.

If you are unsure of what your goals may be, I encourage you to discover them. Sit down with a piece of paper in your hand and start writing out everything you would like to accomplish in your life. This could be a certain career, owning a certain car, having a family, being a professional athlete, singing at the Grand Ole Opry, whatever it is, know that no goal is too silly!

After you have sat down and wrote out all your dreams and future accomplishments on a piece of paper, try to pick 5 that you feel are the most important to you. These 5 things can be either short term, or long term. Write these out, hang up them on your bathroom mirror, or do whatever you need to do to remind yourself of these goals you have every day.

Reminding yourself of your future goals will help motivate you to work hard to accomplish them. It will also help you stay focused and give you a new sense of determination.

Ask yourself: Are you seeking out change in your life? What are some personal goals you could be working on? What are your short term and long term goals?
