Time Management
Have you ever wondered how the week has flown by so fast? Or how hours have gone by in a day and you realized you did not get done anything off of your to-do list? It doesn’t matter who you are, or how old you are, time management is a struggle for all of us.
We live in a busy, chaotic world full of distractions and demands. Everyone is constantly on the go and it seems like we are living in “fast-forward” mode.
If you are a student, maybe you go to school all day, only to come home, rush to get your homework done, eat dinner, and then head to soccer practice. Or maybe you go straight to your Xbox, or immediately open TikTok right when that school bell sounds.
If you are an adult, maybe you are working full-time, taking care of 3 kids, driving them all over the place, and you don’t have a minute to just be still. Or you are constantly helping others and pouring into them that you don’t have a break to just pour into yourself.
If we are not careful, we can fall into habitual routines and take away from the opportunity to be productive in other areas. We can get caught up in over-filling our schedules to the max, without leaving anytime for rest and recovery. You see, rest is important. Without rest, we are unable to continue to run all day long because we eventually will feel drained. Giving yourself permission to rest is important so that you can carry on every day, without feeling exhausted.
I want to challenge each one of you to write a list of all of things you need to do in a week. Also write down the amount of time it will take you. There are 168 hours in a week, but when you make your list, don’t forget to include sleep, school, eating, getting ready, etc. By doing this exercise, you will see how much time you spend in a week doing things.
Maybe you don’t have any extra time, and you have overbooked yourself. Remove some of the things that are less of a priority to you. Or maybe you do have some left-over time in your week.
If you do, I encourage you to not fill that time you have left-over, but instead schedule that time to just rest or do something YOU enjoy! Let yourself slow down for once and know that it is okay to have down time.
