Social Media Awareness

Over the years social media has become more and more popular. It seems that new platforms are always in the making, which means that there are always new concerns to be aware of. Now before you keep reading, I want to be very clear that More2Life is not against the use of social media, in fact we love social media! It is funny, entertaining, and can be used for so many great reasons. We are just an advocate for using social media in healthy, appropriate ways.

What are some ways we can use social media for good? Social media is a great tool to be able to stay in contact with distant relatives, friends that maybe moved away, or simply just staying in touch with someone else. It can also be used to spread positivity, to post motivational quotes, and other outreach ideas. It is also a great outlet for laughter, joy, and pure entertainment. These are all great ways to use our social media platforms.

Now, what are some ways we can use social media poorly? The first, and most common, way is by cyber bullying, putting down others, and adding to the negativity online. We can also find ourselves viewing inappropriate content, posting inappropriate content, and having fake profiles. This sort of content leads others to an unhealthy habit of then comparing themselves to others online.

This comparison trap can cause anxiety, depression, and make you question your self-worth and beauty. If you are reading this, and you yourself have struggled with comparing yourself to others, remember what I am about to tell you: You are not defined by what social media says of you. You are not defined by how many likes or followers you have. You are beautiful, and you are amazing in your own special and unique way.

Lastly, social media can become very time consuming! Many people will go on their phones to kill time, and then find themselves still sitting there hours later. You can monitor this by setting reminders to take breaks on your phone and looking at your “Screen Time” each day (which is located in your settings if you have an iPhone). Another step you can take is simply taking breaks from social media all together. This is refreshing and wise to do so that way you do not become addicted to your device.

What you post stays online forever, so let’s make sure we are setting up our social media for our future. We encourage you to always think about what you post before you post it.

Is it True? Is it Helpful? Is it Inspiring? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind?
