Making Positive Choices

Are you a student and conflicted about how to make better choices? Or are you a parent who wishes to see your children focus on their future, and avoid risky situations? Either way, this is for you, so continue reading and you may gain some helpful insights!

Making positive choices can be very challenging at times. We all go through seasons where we want to fit in, try new things, and even try to act like others around us. This is all part of growing up and considered very normal—especially when you are figuring out who you are and who you want to become.

More2Life is all about equipping youth to make positive choices and teaching them the skills needed to have a successful future. More2Life has some foundational steps to anyone that wants to make positive choices and focus on their future and goals, both short-term and long-term.

First, we would suggest that you take the time to figure out, “What are your goals, dreams, and aspirations?” Some examples might be to play college soccer, or have a family, or maybe you want to move out, or have your own car? Write your goals and dreams on a piece of paper.

Next, make a list of all of the choices you can make in order to help yourself succeed, and a list of all of the choices you can make that will keep you from your goals.

Now take a step back, and ask yourself, am I going to make the positive choices in order to reach my goals? Or will I make the negative choices that will push me further away from my goals?

Our next step is to surround yourself around solid, healthy relationships. This is going to be that key ingredient in keeping you accountable to making wise choices. If you put yourself around negative influences, they are going to sway your behavior and pressure you into doing things that could impact your future.

Lastly, put wise choices into action. Don’t just say that you will do this, but let your words and actions line up. Begin to say no to the choices that will ultimately hurt you and your future!

Always remember, when approaching any decision, the best thing to do is to ask yourself, “Is this going to help me, or hurt me?” If the answer is to help you, you know that it is a wise decision. But if the answer is that it will hurt you, the best thing to do is to say no, and walk away. Your future self will thank you.

How far are you willing to go to stay focused on your dreams, goals, and future?
